Coffee and cigarettes

One thing I've noticed over the last few days is that there are a lot of coffee shops in Mexico. I mean in the states we have a Starbucks at like every corner but that's because they're trying to take over the world. Here they have 1 big chain coffee shop that I know of called the Italian Coffee Company, kind of like Starbucks but different (they do have Starbucks in Mexico I've just only seen them in D.F.). Here they have little privately owned "mom and pop" (for lack of a better term) coffee places. I have been spending a lot of my time in one the last couple days because Pepe's friend is the owner. These little coffee shops aren't selling super fancy stuff... I'm pretty sure they've never heard of a skinny vanilla latte but they have the classics; cappuccino, cafe americano, frappuccinos, and espresso. The thing I've seen ordered most is cafe americano... and not just by the tourists who walk in.
I'm not a super fancy coffee drinker, I like mocha frappuccinos from Starbucks and I get my coffee flavored coffee from Dunkin Donuts so for me its nice to go back to the simple life. I think Denis Leary would agree. And, you can smoke in coffee shops here... total win.
The other thing I've noticed is that in order to drive in Mexico you need to have the reflexes of a jungle cat or some sort of fishing bear. And parallel parking... forget about it. Its like putting a square peg in a round hole half the size, and yet somehow it happens regularly and very well. Its like Tetris on crack. I will continue to feel as though I will get a scooter if I move here... cars are scary.
